Posted: August 17th, 2010 View Comments

The sound quality is far from great, but still more than worth watching…
The 4 song set includes: ‘To Know Him Is To Love Him’, ‘Wish You Were Here’, ‘Comfortably Numb’ and ‘Another Brick in the Wall (Part Two)’.

Roger Waters The Wall Live Update…

Posted: July 21st, 2010 View Comments

Some news is better late than never, such is the case with this information, since it was announced last week when I was on vacation…

David Gilmour and Roger Waters appeared together on July 10th, 2010 at a charity event for the Hoping Foundation and played Wish You Were Here! Guy Pratt, who played bass for Pink Floyd after Roger Waters left, also played with David and Roger at the event.

Additionally, David Gilmour has agreed to play guitar at one concert of the ‘Roger Waters The Wall Live’ tour to play Comfortably Numb! Of course no date or other information is available yet, but it is exciting news.

The Wall Live / David Gilmour Declines Invitation…

Posted: June 4th, 2010 View Comments

I like to think positive every time something new appears in the Pink Floyd camp, and ‘The Wall Live’ was no exception. I initially felt one of two things were likely to happen… Those being that David Gilmour would agree to take part in the tour, making it a truly magnificent show no fan should miss (since I think we all agree only Gilmour can fill his own shoes and anything less just won’t be the same). OR David Gilmour will announce something to take place with his own band in the future.

Neither of these occurred and according to a recent article in Rolling Stone it seems that Roger did ask David to take part and Gilmour declined. In the article it was mentioned along the lines of “We (Roger Waters) asked and David said no”, and it could be that simple without doubt, I guess several factors might also play a role though… Does Roger plan to have the band play from behind ‘The Wall’, as was the case with the original tour? If so, that may be an issue right off the bat, since the other members of Pink Floyd did not like that idea, making the point that people come to see the band play, and placing them behind a wall sort of defeats the main reason people attend a concert.

I also seem to see more evidence, even if just found between the lines, that Gilmour enjoyed the position of ‘front man’, perhaps so much that he cannot agree to work as a ‘hired hand’ under the control of Waters. I assume that would likely be the case if the roles were reversed, but still take the personal position that they/he should SUCK IT UP and give the fans what they really want, which would be the best Pink Floyd show ever as the crowning glory of their career.

So is David Gilmour retired? Only a short time ago I would have said ‘probably not’ – now I am not so sure we will see another tour by Gilmour. My opinion of David has also changed somewhat recently. In the past I would have blamed most, if not all of Pink Floyds problems and eventual breakup on Waters, and that is probably true in large part… However, I also now believe that David played a role as well, and while money was almost certainly a factor, I think a ‘fight for control’ of sorts was taking place and though Roger may be an exception, you cannot generally ‘fight with yourself’, so one has to assume David was his ‘sparring partner’.

Obviously there has been no official announcement that Gilmour has retired, and recent additions have been made to his website, but none of the material is new. Also, David has not even been mentioned lately on the David Gilmour blog, and when I asked FEd what he knew about future offerings he seemed to indicate nothing existed.

Roger has said himself that he has ‘one more tour in him’, so we can assume that when ‘The Wall Live’ tour ends Waters may retire. Is it still possible he will offer some of his unreleased material, or even play a show here and again? I sure cannot say, but I would say that this tour looks to be the last chance we will get to attend a ‘Pink Floyd’ concert.
